Hi,

While I cant comment on how long it would take to become a consultant in this field (not my area of specialisation), I can speak as someone who is no stranger to a career change!  I started my career off as a Developer in Technology Roles, before retraining and becoming a Business Analyst and then moving into Project & Programme Management.

My Advice?

• Consider your reason for the change.  What are you hoping to achieve and why?  Is this something you are passionate about?  As having a passion for it is half the battle!  Also, make sure you understand the role and EVERYTHING it involves, as roles always have significantly more elements than you can see on the surface.
• Self Learning & Upskilling - Look into and undertake external training courses that are available to you.  LinkedIn Learning, formal training etc.  Beyond the technical skills and knowledge you will require, research what additional skills and soft skills are both needed and would be beneficial to the role, and look to develop these along side your technical skills training.
• Networking & Forums - Join Networks and forums on LinkedIn.  These are great sources of Information and networking where your peers will frequently share best practice and bounce ideas off of each other, and this is a fantastic way to learn and engage, and for you to ask any additional questions you may have.
• Networking - Reach out to colleagues in that role within your existing organisation and see if they are willing to have a chat over a coffee with you.
